Take a pause for a few seconds and ask yourself, "Why do you work so hard?". What motivates you to do so, day after day? Most of the readers may utter a single word to answer both the question, "Family" and may lecture me on the importance of family and family relationships. But, what is a family? All of us inherit our physical attributes from our parents. However, when you start interacting with the outside world, you realize that they are not enough to ensure your success, not even your survival. When you find yourself in such a situation, what is it that sustains and supports you. The values which were passed to you by your family make your survival and growth possible. The values such as patience, care, understanding and commitment etc. instilled in you, differentiates you from the rest. If you are already a successful person, then it only underlies the importance of family and the values inherited by you.

Importance of Family
It is not difficult to uncover the importance of family. You may or may not be aware, but your family was the first school you entered, as soon as you arrived in this merciless and cruel world. "Survival of the fittest", is the golden rule in this world. In other words, 'Let the unfit perish', is the motto. When you stepped into this world, you were unfit to survive on your own and by the rule a perishable entity. However, your arrival made your family happy and they took you home and from day one, you started learning about love, care and family relationship. Your parents didn't change your wet nappies only to stop you wailing, but because you were uncomfortable with it. I think, this one single example is enough to convince you of the importance of family. If you are not, then let me know, I have an endless list of examples which I could draw on and on.

Family Relationship
Your family is the environment where you learned to use your faculties and understand and cope with the physical world. It is a time when you didn't bother with trivial things, such as the family relationship, because you knew you are the kingpin of your family. It is the place, where you learned how family relationships work, by observing your parents, grandparents, your siblings and rest of the family members deal with each other. You must have enjoyed meeting them on family vacations and family reunions and exchanging family reunion gifts with them.

With the passage of time, you matured and started taking note of other people on the fringe of your family and then of those, outside your family and how your family members interacted with them. It is this point in your life, when you learnt, what is meant by a healthy relationships and how to make a relationship last. You also noticed, how your family coped and adjusted with the ups and downs of life and time. Do you remember, whether your family exposed you to these difficult times or were you cocooned in the safety of your family totally, unaware of them.

Importance of Family: Identity
What you learned from your family becomes your value system and forms your perceptions and basis of actions. An individual is known by his or her actions. It is your family that gave you an identity. Whenever you move from one place to another, you carry your family history with you. Have you ever noticed that your opinions always confirmed to the values you acquired from your family or delved deep inside them to find the seeds of thoughts that lies at their bottom? Who planted these thoughts? What gives you courage, when you are riding the wave of fortune at its deepest trough with its crest hanging over your head like a sword.

Every individual, barring few unfortunates, are similar to the earth enveloped by its environment, which acts as a protective layer and keeps the empty space out. The earth is populated and fertile because of it. For an individual, the importance of family is incalculable.

Cooking with your preschoolers is an excellent way to incorporate all of your lessons on shapes, colors, counting, directions, math skills, etc and put them to practical use.

I have many preschool cooking ideas which you can use with your children. They always love eating their own special creations and you will find their attention span seems to increase when preparing a yummy snack!

1. It is essential that you talk about cleanliness and the need to wash your hands thoroughly before preparing food. You can use this as an opportunity to provide science lessons on nutrition, on health and being careful not to spread germs, and on how food changes shapes when heated, chilled or prepared.

Use their suggestions as to what to prepare. Ask them if their ideas are healthy snacks or not and why they think so! This is always a fun idea at circle time.

There are many kid friendly and environmentally friendly "kid safe" soaps to use now. You should have these around already in your classroom so you can use these to clean the table or kitchen area. Let them help and ask for their ideas on how to clean. When you ask their help and opinions you are encouraging them to think on their own and to provide reasons why they are suggesting ideas. This is a way to validate them and their ideas.

2. Keep the snacks or projects simple enough to do in one day. They do not have the patience or attention span to carry a food activity over to another day.

3. Break down the steps for them so that they feel in charge of creating their snack. The steps should be easy enough to do and still provide an element of choice and accomplishment.

Here are a couple of preschool cooking ideas that you can try:

Individual Pizzas

Crust--pocket bread, pita bread or half of a hamburg roll
Sauce--pizza sauce
cheese--slices or mozzarella or packages of shredded cheese
Options--pepperoni slices, sliced vegetables such as red peppers or mushrooms

Let each child have a pita bread or half of a hamburg roll. Give them each some sauce in a cup and let them spread it on the bread. Next have them sprinkle the cheese on the sauce. If you provide the options, they can choose what to put on their pizza.

Pizza provides so many opportunities to talk about shapes, cutting things in half and discovering a new shape. Use this as an preschool math lesson to count how many items are needed to prepare the snack and how much of an ingredient is used. They can learn new foods, new words, new shapes, etc.

Next step--Each child brings their pizza to the teacher who then heats it in a toaster oven in the classroom or in a regular oven if it is available. Once they see that the cheese is melted and the snack is ready, they will love eating their very own creation!

Cookie and Cake Decorating

Start out by washing our hands and discussing the reasons for cleanliness before food preparations.

I will bake the cookies and cupcakes the night before and then let the kids do the rest. I bring in their tables and chairs to the kitchen for easy access. You can always purchase large plain sugar cookies at the store and use these as well.

The most popular preschool activity is frosting cookies or cupcakes and using fun sprinkles, i.e.: zoo animals and farm animals delight them.

Provide them with skills, confidence in their abilities and choices and teach them sound eating habits at an early age.

Many a times, left-handed people find themselves in tricky situations where they cannot perform specific tasks (handling tools, equipment, etc.) with the same ease and comfort of a right-handed. This demands awareness and relevant action pertaining to the needs of left handed people.

One should also know the myths and facts about left handed people. The information about their behavior, abilities and intelligence should be well understood in detail. Tropical Mango Lemonade Punch
Ingredients

1 ½ cups sugar
2 cups sliced mangoes, pureed (fresh or frozen)
½ cup fresh lime juice
5 cups cold water

Heat water in a saucepan, and when it begins to boil, pour in ½ a cup of sugar. Allow the sugar to dissolve over low heat. Now pour in 5 cups of cold water, add the pureed mangoes and stir in the lime juice. Pour it into a punch bowl and add shaved or cubed ice. This punch serves four.

Tangy Citrus Punch
Ingredients

11 cups water
2 liters lemon-lime soda
3 cups sugar
chilled lime slices
¾ cup limeade concentrate

Mix together the sugar, water and limeade concentrate, until the sugar melts. Pour it into a 4-qt. freezer container, cover it with a lid and freeze. Take the punch out of the freezer a few hours before the baby shower, and let it melt till you are able to chop it into slush. The soda needs to be added just before serving. Float lime slices on the punch or place them on the rims of the glasses. This punch serves thirty.

Creamy Pink Punch
Ingredients

1 quart vanilla ice cream
2 quarts pineapple juice
1 quart rainbow sherbet
1 (2 liter) bottle of 7-Up or Sprite

Blend together ice cream and sherbet, and pour into a punch bowl. Add the soda and pineapple juice. Your punch will turn pink when you add the rainbow sherbet to it. If you want green punch, use lime sherbet, or orange sherbet for orange punch. Serve with ice.

Blue Bath Recipe
Ingredients

1 (0.13 ounce) package berry blue flavored unsweetened Kool-Aid drink mix
1 (2 liter) bottle lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
1 (64 fluid ounce) bottle white cranberry juice
8 scoops vanilla ice cream
1 cup white sugar, or to taste
3-5 new, clean mini rubber duckies

Mix together the lemon-lime soda, Kool-Aid and white cranberry juice in a large punch bowl. If need be, add sugar to it. Spoon a few scoops of the ice cream on the punch, and as it floats and slowly melts into the punch, it will turn it into a pretty blue color. Float the rubber duckies on the punch.

While preparing baby shower punch, one way of doing it is mixing the chilled carbonated beverages with the punch just before the party begins. This is to avoid the punch getting diluted by ice, which happens often. Serve the baby shower punch in cocktail glasses with frosted rims for good presentation.

A business report is not an example of creative writing which a reader should go through word by word. Business reports are mainly about statistics and specific information. Moreover, people who read such reports are busy personnel of high rank. They do not have time to go through each and every word. They look for particular information and if an organization follows a specific business report format, such personnel know exactly which part of the report to look, for specific information. This saves them a lot of time. Secondly, following a standard business format also allows one to organize his report effectively and logically. This is specially useful in case, the report has a lot of data. Also, one won't forget to cover information on particular area, if one refers to a sample business report. Hence, knowing how to write a business report is very important in the business world.

Sample Business Report Format

There are few standard rules for writing business reports that dictate what information should come in which section of the report. This format is followed in most of the business report examples, that one may refer to. The most widely used business report consists of the following standard sections:

Title Section: In a short report, this could be the first page bearing the title of the report, author name and date. The reason of making such a report could also be included in this section, so that the reader can establish an instant connection with the information in subsequent sections. In case of long reports, include the Table of Contents, Terms of References and so on.

Summary: As the name suggests, this is the summary of the whole report. Then why include it in the beginning of the report itself? It is because this is the section that most of the senior personnel, who do not have enough time to go through the whole report, will read through. Hence, give a very clear and precise information about the problem/aspect of business that the report is analyzing. Also, include the main points, conclusions, recommendations and important results. Although, this section contains a lot of information, ensure that it is a small one. Treat the summary as a separate report and use bullets and numbered lists to highlight important points.

Methodology: List the methodologies used in your research, like if, you interviewed focus groups or consulted research firms. Also, give the reason why you resorted to using a particular methodology.

Introduction: This is the first part of a proper report. Use this section to provide the background of the report. Highlight the reasons why the report is important for the readers. Include information about what is covered in the main body and the order in which the details are covered in the report. In case, the Terms of Reference has not been mentioned in the Title Section, Introduction is the section to include it.

Main Body: This is the heart of the report. Arrange all the information in order of priority, so that this section follows a logical sequence. Divide this section further into subsections. Lend greater order to the Main Body using sub-titles within each subsection. A paragraph about the relevance of the findings of the report can also be included in this section.

Conclusion: Present logical conclusions for the topic investigated in the report. One can also suggest an option for the way forward. In case, discussion has not been included in the Main Body, include it in the concussion. Otherwise keep this section small.

Recommendations: Since you have worked on the report, no one would have a better understanding of the topic than you. There may be a few solutions or actions that you think would be effective in dealing with the problem, investigated in the report. Include those solutions in this section. List them in bullets and numbered lists for easier comprehension

Appendix: Although very few people read the Appendix, the information in this section gives support to the arguments used in the report. It is the Appendix where the author includes all the sources and research information, in detail.

Although it is not about creative writing, good writing skills are important in business information reports, as one needs to give comprehensive information using precise words. It is advisable to keep the language simple and lucid in a business report, specially in the Summary and the Recommendations, as these are the sections most commonly read by senior level managers. However, some technical jargon can be used in the Main Body, as this is the section that is mostly read by experts.

When you reach the end of your life and are lying on your deathbed reflecting, will you be remembering joy, taking pride in accomplishments, feeling the rewards of a life well lived, or will you be filled with regret? Regret is a waste of time, emotion, and energy. To ensure that your life is a successful one, you need to take positive, proactive steps to live in a way that you have no regrets holding you back.

First and foremost, take the time to think before you act. Some people make very big decisions with very little consideration at all, and as a result they often regret their decisions. The most important decisions in life are similar to rudders that steer your future in the direction it will go. Before choosing a college major, getting married, accepting a job, or having a child, you must carefully consider all the rewards and ramifications and make a conscious decision rather than a careless one. Big decisions aren’t the only ones that require forethought, though. Before you lose your temper and say something you will regret later, think about what you’re going to say. It’s easier to tell someone you’ll get back to them later than it is to apologize later for having said the wrong thing. And if you do hurt someone with your words, make amends and apologize.

Use the talents that God gave you. If you can use them in your work and get paid, even better. But even if you don’t earn money for them, you’re still blessed to have been given the gifts you have. And everyone has a gift, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. There is a place in the world for everyone, whether your skill is in playing the piano, cooking spinach Florentine, drawing intricate maps, piloting a military cargo plane, designing video games, or caring for the elderly. Help whoever you can, wherever you can, whenever you can. Regrets more often come from things you wish you hadn’t done, but they can also come from things you wish you had done but didn’t.

Make a list of the things you want to do in life, and then do them. Last but not least, don’t sweat the small stuff. Learn to give yourself some slack and not beat yourself up about things you cannot change. Will that mistake, decision, problem, or issue have any lasting effect that will change the world? If not, then why waste your time regretting it? Put things in perspective and move on. The Church Christ Built

The church Christ built is worthless to man if it is impossible to find (or establish), if it only existed in ancient history, and cannot be known today. Fortunately, like all things that exist, there are marks of identification that allow us to know his church from those made by mere men. We are able to distinguish one thing from another in life because of characteristics that each possess that differ from another in one way or another. True, there may be many similarities, as there are say between a dog and a cat (both have 4 legs, two ears, a tail, walk on all fours, have bodies covered with hair, etc.) but the differences are such as to make identification easy in distinguishing between the two.

What are the marks of identification of the Lord’s church versus man made churches.

(1) The time of its founding. The Lord’s church began in the first century on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. Any church that was built or came into existence centuries later for the first time cannot be the church Jesus built.

(2) The builder - Christ himself built his church. If a church can trace its beginnings back to a particular man or group of men that can be named for its founding it is clearly not the church Christ built.

(3) Its name. If a church is the church Jesus built then one would expect that it would not have a name attached to it given by men. Actually, no formal name was ever given to the church Jesus built. It was often referred to by various figures such as: the body of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23, 4:12), the Lamb’s bride (Rev. 21:9-10, Rom. 7:4), the church of God (Acts 20:28), the church of Christ (Rom. 16:16), the church of the living God (1 Tim. 3:15), the church of the firstborn (Heb. 12:23), the household of God (Eph. 2:19), the flock of God (1 Peter 5:2), God’s field (1 Cor. 2:9), God’s building (1 Cor. 2:9), the house of God (1 Tim. 3:15), the house of Christ (Heb. 3:6), the temple of God (1 Cor. 3:16-17), and, of course, the most common name used for the church in the Bible is just the word "church" itself as all Bible readers know.

The listing above is not an exhaustive list but it is enough of a list as to give you an idea that the church is not given a formal name in the New Testament. Are there any implications that can be correctly drawn from what has been studied here? One thing sticks out to me as I look back over the list – the name Christ or God is given in all the references found (the Lamb is Christ in the Rev. 21:9-10 reference, Christ was the firstborn from the dead in the Heb. 12:23 reference). What is the point?

The church built by Jesus does not belong to you or me or man. It is his and he is the one that is to be honored. When we give a church a man’s name, or give a church a man made name, such brings no honor to God and in fact deprives him of any credit whatsoever. A man is honored by the name, or a movement or method is given honor by the name, but God is to be given glory in the church (Eph. 3:20-21), not a man or a movement. If a church has an unscriptural name it is just that – unscriptural – and there is no making that wrong right as long as the name remains unchanged. A wrong name also becomes a marker for a wrong church, a man made one rather than the one Christ built.

(4) Its members - their names. In the church built by Jesus no member was called anything other than a disciple, a brother or a sister as the case might be or just as brethren when taken collectively, a child of God, a saint, or just by the name Christian (Acts 11:26). Again this listing is not necessarily exhaustive but is sufficient to make a needed point. In the New Testament church there was no such beings as Christians who also had an additional appellation or name to distinguish them from others. This was the very thing Paul condemned in 1 Cor. 2:4 when he said, "For when one says, ‘I am of Paul,’ and another, ‘I am of Apollos,’ are you not carnal?" (NKJV)

No church that wants or insists its members be called by a denominational name in addition to the name Christian is any part of the church Jesus built. Not only is it carnal as Paul speaking by the Holy Spirit said but it is also dishonoring to God as if it is not good enough to just be called a Christian or child of God. The name "Christian" is a Christ honoring name. Denominational names dishonor Christ as his name is replaced for that which the Bible knows nothing about. More could be said about the name but space will not allow it.

(5) Membership - how do people become members of Christ’s church? This is an easily answered question. The church was established on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. When Peter confessed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, in Matt. 16:16, Jesus’ responded by saying, "on this rock I will build my church." (Matt. 16:18 NKJV) But then in the very next verse he tells Peter, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven." (Matt. 16:19 NKJV) Jesus thus uses the terms the church and the kingdom interchangeably making them one and the same.

The kingdom of God is not something that in our own time is yet down the road in the future. Jesus said to those with whom he was speaking in Mark 9:1, "Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power." (NKJV) Paul says some years later in Col. 1:13, "He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love." (NKJV)

Peter used the keys of the kingdom (the keys being the gospel message with its requirements) on the day of Pentecost. When the 3,000 that day heard the message, believed it, repented of their sins (as instructed to do – Acts 2:38), and were baptized for the forgiveness of sins (as instructed to do – Acts 2:38) they were then translated into the kingdom of God by God himself. It is in that kingdom, not out of it, where salvation is found. If saved that day, does anyone doubt that they were (?), they were that day translated into the "kingdom of the Son of his love."

Men do not join the church (the kingdom of God) but rather God adds them upon conditions. "The Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved." (Acts 2:47 NKJV) The conditions are those set forth by Peter on the day of Pentecost. Jesus said, "Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." (John 3:5 NKJV) There are only two kingdoms, the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. One must be in the kingdom of God for salvation but Jesus is the Savior of the body (Eph. 5:23) which is the church (Col. 1:24). The kingdom and the body, the church, are one and the same the difference being only in the way it is being described. The kingdom has a king, the body has a head, but the same one who is king is also the head – the head of the body and of the church which are one and the same (Col. 1:24).

Membership in this body, this church of Christ, this church Jesus built, is granted only on the basis of the new birth (John 3:5). It begins with the Spirit in that through the Spirit’s word, the gospel message, man is led to faith and repentance and a willingness and desire to confess Christ for who he is - the Son of God - and culminates in baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38, 22:16) but more succinctly to put to death the old man of sin and to arise a new spiritual creation (Rom. 6:4-6). The old man dies in baptism (Rom. 6:4), "we were buried with him through baptism into death." (NKJV) We come up from the water clothed with Christ (Gal. 3:27 NAS). Paul is thus able to say, "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body…and have all been made to drink into one Spirit." (1 Cor. 12:13 NKJV)

These then are the terms of membership if one desires to be in the church Jesus built. One can get into churches built by men on other terms, into manmade churches, but there is only one way into the Lord’s church. We must go back to the New Testament and enter the Lord’s church on the same terms of membership that they did back then. The same process that makes one a Christian also makes him a member of the church Jesus built, also adds him to the church, the Lord doing the adding when the requirements are met.

(6) Another mark of the Lord’s church is its organization. Each congregation was on its own running its own affairs with no guidance from any kind of national church organization. Each congregation was to have elders appointed who met certain requirements as set out in 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. This group of men was sometimes referred to under various terms in the same way Christians were as discussed earlier. The terms used were elders, overseers, shepherds, bishops, pastors, and rulers.

One of the requirements for a bishop or elder was that he be "the husband of one wife" (1 Tim. 3:2, Titus 1:6) and thus the church Jesus built was led by men. There were no women in leadership positions in the church. Perhaps the reason is given by Paul in 1 Tim. 2 when he says, "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man…for Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression." (1 Tim. 2:12-14 NKJV) This is a historical reason that time will never be able to change and thus it was not a matter of culture as some teach today.

If you find a congregation that is in violation of God’s plan for church leadership you can be certain, though cries may be made to high heaven, that it is not the church Jesus built. The eldership was always made up of a number of men and not just a single individual (Titus 1:5, Heb. 13:17). Thus in the church Christ built there were no women in leadership positions or teaching over men (preachers) nor was there any such thing as the modern pastor system. Those things are from men, not God.

Finally, there was a group of men known as deacons who also had an organized work to do under the direction of the eldership. Qualifications for these men are found in 1 Tim. 3:8-13. Some feel the 7 men chosen to supervise the daily distribution in the church at Jerusalem as found in Acts 6:1-6 were the first deacons. They certainly filled the role deacons might well serve.

(7) Worship of the church. The church Jesus built never prayed to saints departed or otherwise. Peter would not allow himself to be worshiped but when Cornelius attempted to do so, "Peter lifted him up, saying, ‘Stand up; I myself am also a man." (Acts 10:26 NKJV) Paul and Barnabas had a somewhat similar experience in Lystra where the inhabitants wanted to sacrifice to them but they would not have it and restrained the people (Acts 14:11-18).

By contrast there is one well known religious group today who’s leader not only will accept worship with men bowing down to him but is even so bold as to make himself God on earth. Praying to dead saints rather to God is a common practice among them. Needless to say you find nothing like this in the New Testament and it is thus no part of the church Jesus built.

But when we talk about the worship of the church there is more to it than just the correct object of worship – God in heaven. Jesus said we must worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24). He then says in John 17:17 that, "Your word is truth." (NKJV) This means, obviously, that man is not free to worship God just any old man made up way he chooses and call it worship pleasing to God. God gets to decide what pleases, not man. If you recall the church at Corinth in 1 Cor. 11 had a worshipping problem as it pertained to the Lord’s Supper. Not just any old way of doing things pleases God.

What are the acts of worship as found in the New Testament that when done in the right manner pleases God? Partaking of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week is one (Acts 20:7), prayer is another, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs (Eph. 5:19-20, Col. 3:16) is included, teaching of God’s word in which exhortation would be a part, and giving. Very few if any would object to any of these things for all are pretty much in agreement that these things can be found on the pages of the New Testament as things authorized in worship. We can do all of these things in the name of the Lord Jesus. "Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Col. 3:17 NKJV)

The problem today, when one is searching for the church built by Christ as far as it pertains to the worship, is finding a church that has not added to it. All kinds of entertainment has been made a part of the worship - plays, dramas, musical entertainment (generally called in my part of the country "special music"), special events, and around election time even political rallies passed off as worship service. No, if we want the church the saints had in the first century, the one that belonged to Christ, we will have to content ourselves with doing what they did under divine approval and say that is good enough for it is good indeed as it came to us from "the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning." (James 1:17 NKJV)

(8) The works of the church. The works of the church I think all are pretty much in agreement on as one looks back at the church in the New Testament. What did they do? They taught the gospel, they attempted to build each other up in the faith and lend a hand to one another as needed; they were encouraged in every good work, and helped the poor and needy.

The mission of the church was spiritual but that did not mean it was divorced from the cares of this world completely. "Whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?" (1 John 3:17 NKJV)

Much that you see being done in churches today was never a part of the New Testament church. There were no ball teams, no seminars on how to do your taxes, or lose weight, no business enterprises to raise money versus giving it out of your own pocket, and the list could go on and on. We need to learn what work the New Testament churches were involved in and get back to it and forget about everything else.

In this article I have tried to set forth the marks of identification for the church Christ built. That is the church we need to be in and need to get back to. If we did all denominations would cease to exist so men will fight it tooth and nail for it is one thing to say we want it and it is another thing to really want it enough to give up the things we have for it. In other words the old saying "talk is cheap" was and is more than just a saying.

Can we have the church Jesus built in our own day and time? I knew a lady that once said no. She was in error. We can have it if we want it. Do we really want it is the question.

Lance Corporal Joshua Bernard, pictured being tended by comrades in southern Afghanistan, died of his injuries soon after. Now the release of this record of the 21-year-old's last moments has divided America, prompting furious debate over the sanitization of war at a critical time for the military offensive.

The US defence secretary, Robert Gates, condemned the decision by the news agency Associated Press to publish. "I cannot imagine the pain and suffering Lance Corporal Bernard's death has caused his family. Why your organisation would purposefully defy the family's wishes, knowing full well that it will lead to yet more anguish, is beyond me.

"Your lack of compassion and common sense in choosing to put this image of their maimed and stricken child on the front page of multiple American newspapers is appalling."

However, AP, whose photographer Julie Jacobson took the shot after being caught in the middle of an ambush while accompanying marines on patrol, said it had acted only after a "period of reflection" and argued that the picture illustrated the sacrifice and the bravery of those fighting in Afghanistan. "We feel it is our journalistic duty to show the reality of the war there, however unpleasant and brutal that sometimes is," said Santiago Lyon, the director of photography for AP.

The row reflects rising tensions over the impact of the death toll on an already wavering American public, with support for the war dwindling and President Barack Obama warned this weekend by leading Democrats that any attempt to send more troops is likely to meet resistance in Congress.

It also recalls the controversy four years ago when the Pentagon finally released pictures of flag-draped coffins returning from Iraq, overturning a ban imposed in 1991 on the US media photographing military caskets in transit.

In that case, the concerns of families were also repeatedly cited as justification for suppressing images of the dead, and they were only published after a freedom of information request by a professor of journalism, who argued that they were a matter of public record. By contrast, the British media has regularly covered the return of coffins.

In extracts from her journal published by the US website huffingtonpost.com, Jacobson described the moment when she watched a marine lose his life "for the second time in my life". "He was hit with the RPG which blew off one of his legs and badly mangled the other... I hadn't seen it happen, just heard the explosion." She described how she heard Bernard calling out that he could not breathe, and his friends telling him he was going to make it.

About 20 American newspapers and some websites used the image, sent out alongside photographs of Bernard's life in uniform and his memorial service, last week, but it was taken on 14 August when Bernard's patrol in the village of Dahaneh was ambushed. He was airlifted to the US base at Camp Leatherneck but died there of his wounds, the 19th American to lose his life in Helmand that month at the height of the fighting.

AP said the images had been shown to his family in advance, but said that reporters had not specifically asked the family's permission to publish, admitting that his parents had not wanted the photographs to be used.

The son of a retired marine, Bernard, from New Portland in rural Maine, was described as a devout Christian, an Iraq war veteran, a keen snowboarder and an avid hiker. His father, John, described him as a "humble, shy, unassuming" man who did not smoke or drink and whose main friends were from his church group. Three weeks before Joshua died, Bernard Snr had written to his congressman expressing frustration at what he said was a change in the rules of engagement to spare civilians, calling the move "disgraceful, immoral and fatal" to American forces in combat.

Asked to sum up his son, John Bernard suggested the words "service and personal honor".

Chris Brown Denies Not Remembering Rihanna Incident

During a recent interview with Larry King, Chris Brown was asked if he remembered what happened during his attack on Rihanna and he answered, "no." The clip of that piece of the interview was all over the Internet on Monday and now Brown and his handlers are trying to clarify that his response was taken out of context and that he had repeatedly avoided speaking about any details of that fateful night when questioned during the interview.

Instead, Brown claims that he simply misspoke when making another attempt to deflect the same question. Brown made an official statement to People magazine on Monday and this is the gist of that statement: "Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur."

But if you watch the clip, it's clear that Brown isn't really sure what he's saying and Larry King does ask him a second time if he remembers - and Brown responds with a non-answer. His handlers definitely drilled into him the idea that he shouldn't go into any detail about the event, but Larry's not exactly going to stick to the script, intentionally or not. And whoever thought it was a good idea to have Brown in a bow tie for the interview seems to have lost touch with reality a bit. Why the bow tie? Keep the sweater and the shirt, but the bow tie is downright ridiculous and makes it look like he's "trying" to look pathetic.

Iran Calls for Nuclear Talks As Further Sanctions Loom

Iran said today it was ready to resume negotiations over its nuclear program and a broad range of other issues with a six-nation group of major powers.

The brief announcement reported on state-run Iranian television appeared to have been timed to precede a meeting tomorrow in Germany to discuss further sanctions against Iran for failing to comply with UN security council demands to suspend uranium enrichment.

Saeed Jalili, the country's lead nuclear negotiator, said the Iranian government had completed a package of proposals for dialog "regarding all security, political and economic issues, in addition to the nuclear issue".

However, the EU's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, who leads the six-nation group's negotiations with Tehran, had not been informed of the Iranian package by this afternoon. Solana is traveling in the Middle East, but his Brussels office said: "There are plenty of people here ready to take the call. I am not aware of any contact or message or transmission."

Western reaction was cautious. "We are cautious, careful, but ever hopeful," a European diplomat said.

Iran has put forward its own set of proposals before, in July last year, but they said nothing about suspension of enrichment. Since then, Tehran had insisted that enrichment was non-negotiable.

Tomorrow's meeting in Frankfurt brings together senior diplomats from the US, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China – a group known as the "E3+3" – to assess joint policy towards Iran. The American and west European delegates are expected to use the meeting to sound out the Russians and Chinese on their attitude towards a new wave of sanctions, possibly targeting Iran's oil and gas sector, if Tehran refuses to compromise over uranium enrichment before the UN general assembly begins on 23 September.

Western diplomats speculated that the timing of the Iranian announcement was intended to blunt the drive towards more sanctions and soften Iran's image prior to the assembly, which the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, plans to address, according to an aide.

The pressure on Tehran was heightened last week by a report from the International Atomic Energy Agency, saying that Iran was continuing to install centrifuges at its Natanz uranium enrichment plant and had failed to answer questions about evidence suggesting Iranian scientists had carried out development work on a nuclear warhead. Iran insists its nuclear program has entirely peaceful aims.

After taking office in January, Barack Obama offered talks without precondition to Iran. The offer was backed up by the E3+3 group which met in April and restated its offer of economic aid and technical assistance in return for Iran's suspension of uranium enrichment. The E3+3 has also put forward a "freeze for freeze" proposal, under which the international community would stop extending sanctions if Iran stopped expanding its enrichment facility in Natanz. The Iranian response was delayed by the presidential elections in June and their bloody aftermath.

A critical moment in Ahmadinejad's efforts to consolidate power will come tomorrow when the Iranian parliament, the majlis, is due to vote on his cabinet. He won critical support on the eve of the vote when the majlis applauded his choice of defence minister, Ahmad Vahidi.

Vahidi faces charges in Argentina for his alleged role in the bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994, in which 85 people died. At the time, Vahidi was the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's Quds Force. His nomination triggered an uproar, but the majlis signaled its defiance as deputies chanted "death to Israel" when Vahidi addressed the chamber.

A bruise occurs when a traumatic injury is caused to any of the soft muscle tissues. This injury results in the breakage of the capillaries and the leakage of red blood cells or bleeding. The medical term used to describe easy bruising is contusion and ecchymosis. It is a common phenomena of aging and usually does not require any treatment. At times, the bruise may not heal on its own and this is when medical intervention gets necessary. This kind of easy bruising may be a sign of an underlying serious medical condition. On the skin, easy bruising appears as a purplish blue discoloration and may cause some pain depending upon the severity.
